What can be said about this year… well I moved country, and I moved lakes and err I didn’t move the world fish wise. My grand total so far for carp this year in the UK stands at….1 I really cant be accused of not putting in the hours either. I worked out that I spent 20+ nights at Thorney Weir this year for a big fat zero. I lost 1 carp in the weed when an ESP raptor opened up on me and that has been my lot. I have had some big ( and I mean doubles or close to double) figure bream and tench this year but on 3lb TC rods they are not the same. By the way if you are a specimen bream or tench fisherman you really need to get yourself over there, they are virtually untargeted. I think I might put in some effort somewhere else next year, Thorney is nice and I would recommend it however I just couldn’t get into my stride there. In the 20+ days I have just realised that not only did I not catch anything I haven’t even seen a fish on the bank. Sure I have seen wet slings and mats but so far I have not seen a Thorney Weir fish on the bank at all. So next year I may start to use some of the other tickets I have and really put in some time on Harefield pit 1 or the Watford Piscators complex and then come back to thorney for a campaign in late October 2011.

Well this was meant to be the post on the social however as no one else turned up this is the limit of the post. If you are going to say you will be somewhere – be there. Will put together a longer post when I am back in front of a pc.
OK now back in front of a PC, well the weekend was a nice relaxing weekend not interrupted by any carp action. One of the bailiffs wander around to check tickets and indicated that some people around the lake were having a few out. To the best of my knowledge there were at least 2 twenties out and 10+ doubles. My only fish was a 9-8lb tench which come to think of it was probably a PB so should have been weighed and photographed.

As many of you will know I recently moved back to London from Amsterdam where I had been living for the past few years. Fishing in Amsterdam was good, if you are ever considering a place as a fisherman to relocate to I heartily suggest Amsterdam.
Anyway, that is now all in the past and I am now back in London and fishing is a hell of a lot harder 
gone are the lazy days sitting at the side of super easy dutch waters ( there are harder ones but guess which ones I chose) pulling doubles and 20′s out by the fistful. Oh well a new chapter in my fishing life beckons.
As I wanted to get some serious fishing in I decelieded that there was only one plce to try Thorney Weir, I joined this syndicate a while back and I decided that as I had holiday to burn now was the time to get down to Thoeny Weir and put some hours in.
The lake was fairly empty as one would expect for a Monday morning and I was brimming with confidence. There was weed everywhere and the wind and been going around in circles for days do I thought it better to concentrate on where I could see fish rather than where I knew they had to be. The back of the island swim was vacant and as I could see fish topping and rolling I thought that this would be a good bet. Knowing that there was a large gravel patch on the left hand side of the island ( thanks Jon) I put out 2kg’s of boilie figuring that in this weather the carp would be super active and with the stocking levels as they are this would be gone in no time. The other rods I fished against a weed bed and in the margin as there was a very tasty margin along the access road where no one can fish to.
To cut a long story short..
After 3 days of precisely nothing I decided to move to the swim called river point. A quick walk around the lake in the early morning showed that there were fish aplenty cruising around and generally sitting in the weed.
